Hiram Price was a Pennsylvania native who moved to Davenport, Iowa in 1844 where he served as a bank president (1859-1866, 1873), county official, and U.S. Representative (38th-40th, 45th & 46th Congresses). He was U.S. Commissioner of Indian Affairs from 1881-1885 and resided in Washington, D.C. from that time until his death in 1901.
